A source close to Guyana’s gold mining industry has told the Stabroek Business that the recently announced US$181 million increase in revenue earned by the country’s gold production in 2024 “while not necessarily being a false figure” conceals what he says is the “downside” of the sector, “the out of control smuggling of gold out of the country.”
