Guyana Cultural Association NY Inc. and Prospect Park Alliance to present Aug. 30 awards
Themed: Caricom @ 50 Recognizing and Celebrating Its New York Roots, the Guyana Cultural Association of New York Inc., organizers of the Annual Folk Festival, will honor individuals, and organizations at its August 30 awards at The Boathouse, Prospect Park, 101 East Drive in Brooklyn.
The award ceremony will begin its in-person and streaming (Facebook) presentation at 6:00pm.
Retired Guyana Consul General to New York, Barbara Atherly and Socialite Sybil F. Chester will receive the Exemplary GCA Award, while, Actor,
Head of the Theatre and Cultural Institution, Cayman Islands Henery Muttoo, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Micke Yansen Enterprises Inc. will be recognized as a Cultural Enabler.
The Guyana Cultural Association (GCA) Award will go to Merundoi Incorporated, Guyana United Youth Development Association of NY, Inc. (GUYDA), Ingrid Griffith, Keith Aubrey Agard, Lorna McPherson, Narine Dat Sookram, Oral Welshman, Gavin Medonca, Maxwell Gouveia, Marlon Adams, Dr. Carol L. Bristol, and “We are GUTSY Inc.
The Non-profit that will recognize global nominations submitted for persons and entities whose accomplishments document, promote, and reflect Guyanese cultural heritage, has also announced winners of the Godfrey Chin Prize for Heritage Journalism.
The 1st Prize of US$500 is awarded to Akima McPherson for “Eye on Art”.
The 2nd Prize of US$300 is awarded to Denny Persaud for “It’s Our Life. The 3rd Prize of US$200 is awarded to Philip Odwin for “Philip Odwin Fishing.”
Additionally, Derry Etkins Memorial Prize for Excellence in Music (composition, Performance, and Preservation) was awarded to Colgrain Whyte. The Derry Etkins Memorial Prize for Service and Commitment to Music Education in Guyana is awarded to Gavin Mendonca and Marlon “Chucky” Adams.
