First Caribbean Week Ghana to take center stage from June 1 – 8, 2024, in Accra, Ghana

Guyanese-born Malissa Garner who migrated from the United States to Ghana, West Africa in 2022, told Caribbean Life last Thursday, that the vibrant and dynamic Caribbean culture will take center stage when the Ghana Caribbean Association (GCA) hosts its very first Caribbean Week Ghana from June 1 to June 8, 2024.

“This annual initiative aims to introduce and celebrate Caribbean culture while making stronger ties between the Caribbean diaspora and native Ghanaians,” said Garner, adding that the week-long celebration will feature a diverse array of events designed to showcase the richness of Caribbean heritage and its positive impact on Ghanaian society

Garner, the event director for the week of activities, noted that the kick-off official Ribbon Cutting and International Market Day on June 1, will offer international shopping, entertainment, and informative sessions. A Family Fun Day on June 2 will feature authentic Caribbean food, a mini market, pool party, and games, for everyone to enjoy.

Some of the highlights will include a session for dance enthusiasts, “who won’t want to miss Salsa vs. Soca,” also scheduled for June 2 being led by the renowned Ghanaian dance school, Salsa in The City.

“DJ Serius from Barbados will be playing the hottest music to enhance the authentic Caribbean experience,” she added.

A Steel Pan vs. Drums will captivate audiences with a Reggae live band showcase featuring Trinidadian steel pan player Knomaad and local Ghanaian drumming company, African Rhythms Studios, set for June 7. While a grand finale, Fete vs. Bashment Party on June 8, promises a sensational closing celebration with a mix of dancehall, soca, calypso, chutney, and other music genres, “ensuring an unforgettable experience for all attendees. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Caribbean right here in Ghana, said Garner, who partnered with the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President in Ghana.
