‘Fireman’ wins Ragga Soca, Power Soca Monarch crowns in Vincy Mas
Delroy “Fireman” Hooper Saturday night won the 2022 Ragga Soca Monarch and the Power Soca Monarch competitions in Vincy Mas at Victoria Park in Kingstown, the Vincentian capital, earning him 12 soca monarch and four ragga soca titles.
According St. Vincent Times, Fireman won the Power Soca crown with “Bad Demons” and the Ragga Soca title with “Social Media Police.”
The online publication said that it was the second time that Fireman won both the Ragga Soca and the Power Soca titles.
St. Vincent Times said Fireman won the Power Soca title with “Unruly” and the Ragga Soca crown with “Rum Meeting” in 2014.
Saturday night, “Fireman dethroned Hance John in the Ragga Soca Monarch category and Derron “Magikal” Rouse in the Soca Monarch category,” One News St. Vincent said.
It said Keith “Grabba Finesse” Charles took the second spot in the Power Soca Monarch competition, while Hance John took the second spot in the Ragga Soca competition.
One News St. Vincent said Fireman “won the favor of both the crowd and the judges, as he outperformed 11 other artistes in the Soca competition.”
“In 2022, Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper was able to enchant the crowd and the judges again at the Victoria Park in Kingstown in the national competition, which was held after a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” One News St. Vincent said.
It said Derron “Magikal” Rouse with his song, “Wah Deh,” was “not able to defend the title he held since 2019,” placing third in the Soca category. In 2019, Magikal won with “Bloody Hell Crazy.”
Grabba Finesse placed second with “Place Turn Ova,” while Kemmy took the fourth spot, with “The Call.”
In the Ragga Soca competition, Hance John took the second spot with “All I need,” according to One News St. Vincent, while Bongo Prime placed third with “Chemistry.”
St. Vincent Times also reported that Maxwell “Tajoe” Francis was crowned the new Calypso Monarch in St. Vincent and the Grenadines Sunday night, winning his second title with “Playing Devil’s Advocate.”
“As a member of the rural community of Fancy Village, Tajoe noted that his victory is the result of a lot of sacrifices,” St. Vincent Times said.
Fancy is the most northerly community on mainland St. Vincent.
Kingsley “Hero” Roberts placed second in the calypso competition, with defending champion Shaunelle McKenzie placing third and Glenroy “Sulle” Caesar fourth, according to St. Vincent Times.
