Figure Skating in Harlem 2024 Gala raised nearly $1.3M for NYC girls
Figure Skating in Harlem 2024 Gala raised nearly $1.3 million to support the 27-year-old nonprofit organization serving girls and young women within the Harlem and New York City community, with programs centered around the sport, and academic and leadership development.
Figure Skating in Harlem said 400 guests attended the annual Gala at Gotham Hall, on April 17, which CBS Morning’s co-host Vladimir Duthiers hosted.
“The 2024 Gala honored women advancing the access, amplification, and advocacy around equity in figure skating, education and leadership nationally,” Figure Skating in Harlem said.
The 2024 honors and presentations included (in this order): Alicia Hall Moran (award-winning, celebrated vocalist, FSH volunteer) presented by Lola C. West (WestFuller Advisors Founding Partner); and Daria Forde (Warner Bros Discovery, FSH Alumna) was presented by Florence “Flo” Ngala (Forbes’ 30 Under 30 celebrated photographer.
The others were: Vogue’s first Black woman to photograph the MET Gala); and Cynthia Romano (FTI Consulting Senior Manager Director, FSH founding volunteer) presented by Claudia Romano; and Tina Davis (Citi Head of Enterprise Marketing & Brand Engagement, FSH Board Member), presented by Bevy Smith (Sirius Satellite host and celebrated author).
The Gala featured special appearances by Team USA members, who were recently awarded a gold medal for their 2022 performance after Russia’s disqualification for doping, and the founders of the country’s first Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) figure skating team, FSH alumnae Cheyenne Walker and Ariel Clarke.
“Guests enjoyed the awards and senior scholarship presentations, a video of FSH’s performance at the 2024 US Figure Skating National Championships exhibition, remarkable live performances from FSH alumna & Broadway ‘The Lion King’ star Mariama Diop and current FSH spoken word students,” Figure Skating in Harlem said.
