CWI Super50 opens Oct.17 in T&T

Regional cricket is set to continue in Trinidad and Tobago after the completion of the Caribbean Premier League with the Cricket West Indies CG United Super 50 Cup. All 31 matches in this year’s edition of the tournament, will be played in T&T between Oct. 17 and Nov. 11.

The Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) in Tarouba, San Fernando, Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, and the Sir Frank Worrel Cricket Ground at the University of the West Indies Sport and Physical Education Centre (UWI SPEC) in St. Augustine are the three venues being used for this region’s premier 50-over tournament.

Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe stressed the importance of the tournament. “This is a crucial stage in our planning as we look to build towards the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027,” he said.

“We see the upcoming CG United Super50 Cup as the perfect platform to establish and incentivize a West Indies brand of play in the 50-over format and for the emergence of new talent,” Bascombe added. “The introduction of the round robin format will provide players with more ‘playing time’ in the middle as well as a balanced way of gauging individual and team performances. We are pleased to again to have CCC and the West Indies Academy participating at the senior level as they join the other six franchise teams as we look to widen the pool of players,” he added.

The Combined Colleges and Campuses (CCC) and West Indies Academy will be joining the six regional teams, T&T Red Force, Guyana Harpy Eagles, Barbados Pride, Windward Islands Volcanoes, Leeward Island Hurricanes and the reigning champions Jamaica Scorpions.
