Chase appointed Test vice-captain for New Zealand tour

All-rounder Roston Chase has been appointed West Indies vice-captain for the Tour of New Zealand.

Chase has replaced compatriot and long-serving opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite in the position for the Test series against the Black Caps.

Chase, who had captained West Indies “A” in One-Day series, said he was a bit shocked about his new role in the team.

Chase, a 28 year-old batsman and part-time off-spinner, has played 35 Tests for the regional team over the last four years, scoring 1,852 runs at an average of 30.86 and taking 69 wickets.

He said he is looking forward to working closer with compatriot and Test captain Jason Holder and head coach Phil Simmons on the Tour in an effort to help the West Indies end their winless streak in Tests in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, wicket-keeper hard-hitting batsman Nicholas Pooran has been appointed vice-captain of the Twenty20 squad, which is captained by Kieron Pollard. He previously served in that position on the Tour to Sri Lanka in March this year.

The West Indies will play three Twenty20s and two Tests on the tour.
