Carter wins 50m Free Gold at World Cup

After a disappointing encounter at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, ace TT swimmer Dylan Carter landed a gold medal in the men’s 50-metre freestyle event in the first leg of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Shanghai, China.

Swimming out of lane four, Carter took top spot in a time of 21.06 seconds, just ahead of USA’s Jack Dolan in 21.07 who was in second place. Germany’s Marius Kusch grabbed the bronze medal with a time of 21.09.

In heat three of five on Oct. 17, Carter booked his place in the final when he achieved the joint-fastest time amongst the competitors to hit the wall in 21.03. Dolan, who also swam in heat three, clocked 21.03, with Australia’s Isaac Cooper clocking a similar time as he took heat four honors.

On Oct. 20, 28-year old Carter was joint fifth in the men’s 50m butterfly final in the FINA World Aquatics Swimming World Cup.

Swimming from lane seven, Carter got to the wall in 22.53 seconds, the same time as Australian Matthew Temple.

After hitting a new world record in the men’s 50m butterfly heats in 21.67, Switzerland’s Noe Ponti falling just .01 shy of the new standard, in  21.68 to grab the gold the second best time in history.

Both times, Ponti easily cleared the former World Record of 21.75, which both Brazilian Nicholas Santos and Hungarian Szebasztian Szabo held from the respective years of 2018 and 2021.

North Carolina State Nyls Korstanje punched in at 22.00 to snag the silver, just off the 21.96 he turned in during the heats. Germany’s Marius Kusch was the third-place finisher in 22.26, while Australian Isaac Cooper was fourth in 22.35. Australian Jesse Coleman was seventh in 22.54 and Singapore’s Tzen Wei Teong was eighth in 22.58.
