Carter splashes to 100m freestyle bronze

T&T’s ace swimmer Dylan Carter added to his men’s 50-meter freestyle gold when he swam to bronze in the 100m freestyle final at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Singapore.

Twenty-year-old Pan Zhanle of China, the reigning Olympic champion and World Record holder in this event’s Long Course Meet version, clocked a time of 46.09 for victory, beating Italy’s Thomas Ceccon, who claimed silver in 46.25. At the same time, 28-year-old Carter touched in 46.60 for bronze.

The other finishers in the gold medal event were Australian Matthew Temple in 46.76, China’s Haoyu Wang in 46.83, New Zealand’s Carter Swift (46.96), USA’s Jack Dolan (47.04), and Germany’s Rafael Miroslaw in 47.12.

Carter also had a fifth-place finish in the men’s 50m backstroke final in 23.13, with Australian Isaac Cooper (22.61) getting the better of South African Pieter Coetze (22.75) for the gold medal.

Carter won the men’s 50-meter freestyle in 20.82, the only swimmer under 21 seconds in the final, and just 0.12 off his 20.70 personal best time set at the 2022 Short Course World Championships for his second win in three finals this year and fifth win in the event overall.

Aussie sprinter Cooper got a silver medal in 21.01, while Kusch was third in 21.04 for his second bronze in the event.
