Carter misses medal at World Aquatics Champs

T&T’s national swimming champion Dylan Carter missed out on a medal at the World Aquatic Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The 28-year-old Carter entered the pool at the Aspire Dome to produce a 23.17 seconds that earned him the fifth-place finish in the final of the 50-metre swim.

America’s Michael Andrew was surpassed by Portugal’s Diogo Ribeiro Matos, who posted the only sub-23-second performance on the night at 22.97 for the win and resulting gold medal.

Andrew had to settle for the silver medal for the second-place spot with his 23.07 time, with Australia’s Cameron McEvoy sealing the bronze medal, as he touched the wall at the finish line in 23.08 seconds. The fourth position was taken by Australian Isaac Cooper at 23.12, with Carter in 23.17 at fifth, Mario Yanes Molla of Spain in 23.29 at sixth, Inchul Baek of Korea in 23.35 at seventh, and the USA’s Shaine Casas in 23.47 at eighth.

Carter also did not advance to the final of the men’s 50m freestyle after placing eighth in semi-final two at the same location.

He was the last to touch the wall in 22.01 seconds and finished 15th fastest overall.
