CABS Health Network celebrates unsung heroes with Circle of Care Awards
In a world that often moves at an unrelenting pace, it is easy to overlook the quiet heroes among us — the caregivers who selflessly dedicate their lives to the well-being of others.
The Circle of Care Awards, an annual recognition program presented by the CABS Health Network, held at the luxurious Gianda on the Water in Brooklyn, acknowledged, and celebrated these unsung heroes, who often work behind the scenes in providing essential care to those in need.
Cabs Health Network organized and hosted the event on October 12. It is a not-for-profit health management agency and organization with a 40-year history of service to New Yorkers, particularly those in the vibrant community of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
The organization’s commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare services has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless New Yorkers. Sherly Demosthenes-Atkinson, the CEO of CABS Health Network, expressed her deep appreciation for the caregivers and the community during the awards ceremony.
This year’s event, hosted by the charismatic WBLS radio personality Déjà Vu Parker brought together a diverse community to recognize and honor the exemplary individuals who go above and beyond in providing care and support.
Parker, with her infectious energy and warmth, set the stage for an evening filled with heartfelt gratitude. She noted, “It’s a privilege to be part of an event that shines a light on those who often work in the shadows. The Circle of Care Awards is a reminder that the work of caregivers is not only vital but deserves recognition and appreciation.”
Demosthenes-Atkinson emphasized the significance of the Circle of Care Awards, stating, “Our caregivers are the heart and soul of our community. They embody the values of compassion, dedication, and selflessness. The Circle of Care Awards is our way of saying ‘thank you’ and acknowledging the incredible impact these caregivers have on the lives of those they serve.”
One of the highlights of the evening was an inspiring speech by William Andrews, chairman and co-founder. Andrews a visionary leader who has dedicated his life to building a healthier and more connected community, spoke passionately about the origins of the organization and the importance of recognizing the everyday heroes in our midst.
Williams shared, “When we started CABS Health Network 40 years ago, our vision was to create a space where everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, could receive quality healthcare. The Circle of Care Awards is an extension of that vision, a way to celebrate the caregivers who embody the spirit of community care.”
The awards ceremony featured multiple categories, each highlighting a different facet of care-giving excellence. Categories included “Outstanding Care Giver, Client and Caregiver Partnership, CABS Administrative Staff.
Dr. Abdelraham Salem received The Community Partner Award. He is an international pioneer in manual and physical therapy and director and founder of American Manual Therapy.
The nominees and winners were chosen through a rigorous selection process, with a panel of community leaders, healthcare professionals, and previous awardees participating in the decision-making process.
The event showcased emotional stories of caregivers who have made a profound impact on the lives of those they serve.
From the dedicated caregiver who went above and beyond to comfort a patient in their final moments to the community volunteer who tirelessly worked to ensure access to essential services, each story painted a vivid picture of the compassion and commitment that define the Circle of Care awardees.
As the evening unfolded, it became clear that the Circle of Care Awards was not just an awards ceremony; it was a testament to the strength of community bonds and the power of individuals coming together to make a difference.
The spirit of unity and appreciation permeated the venue, creating an atmosphere of gratitude and inspiration.
