Brooklyn ready for Bounty Killer at Barclays Center

Brooklyn is set to welcome dancehall icon Bounty Killer for his first performance on US soil after 15 years.

Anthony’ ER Guru’ Turner, a Jamaican-born, New York-based entertainment publicist, told Caribbean Life on Monday that Bounty Killer, whose real name is Rodney Price, is returning to the US after his visa was revoked.

Turner said the GRAMMY Award-winning dancehall icon would perform on Independence weekend, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the 18,000-capacity Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn.

“Brooklyn is Bounty’s home away from home since his 1992 breakout hit ‘Coppershot was released by celebrated producer King Jammy. It nah guh normal, Turner said.

“One must also not forget that Americans and Hispanics who love hip hop have a special love for the dancehall superstar, as was on display at his spectacular Verzuz performance with Beenie Man, he added. “It was the biggest and most watched presentation on the platform during COVID-19.

“This shows the depth of the fanbase and how loved his music catalog is, Turner continued.

Bounty Killer’s catalogue includes several hit songs, including Anytime, Look, Eagle & Di Hawk, Sufferer, Slow Motion, Fed Up, Down In The Ghetto, It’s A Party, and Spy Fi Die — the latter leading to his debut album Jamaica’s Most Wanted.

Turner said he has also been a mentor, helping to launch the careers of  Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man, and Mavado – three of the biggest stars in dancehall.

Bounty’s long-time friend and music collaborator, Richie Stephens, celebrated the Barclays event’s announcement.

“Bounty deserves a big moment like this. This performance will be historic, he said. “Bounty and I have talked about this many times before.

“We have spoken about touring the US, Japan, and Europe, Stephens added. “So, to see his dream materialize is the work of Father God.

Stephens added that besides collaborating with Bounty on songs like Maniac, Pot of Gold, Crazy, and most recently, Family and Friends, which blends his soulful vocals and Bounty’s signature deejaying style, Bounty has collaborated with The Fugees, Wu-Tang Clan, No Doubt, and Busta Rhymes.
