Biden congratulates Curaçao on National Day

The Joe Biden administration on Tuesday congratulated the people of Curaçao as they celebrate Curaçao Day.

“Our longstanding friendship is a testament to the people-to-people ties, shared history, and common values that bind us,” said US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken in a statement. “The United States and Curaçao will continue working together to disrupt transnational criminal networks and make life safer for all our citizens.

“Together, we are expanding economic opportunity by investing our time and resources into education and entrepreneurship,” he added. “Through regional initiatives such as the US-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis (PACC 2030), we are partnering with Caribbean institutions to improve Caribbean resilience and our ability to face future challenges.

“Wishing the people of Curaçao a happy Curaçao Day and looking forward to continuing to build a brighter future for our peoples.

Curaçao Day is a public holiday that is observed annually on Oct. 10. This year, the island celebrates its 23rd anniversary of becoming a nation inside the Dutch Kingdom.

Curaçao, together with sister islands Aruba and Bonaire, is located in the Southern Caribbean Sea. Curaçao currently administers and manages its internal affairs as an autonomous nation, with the Kingdom of the Netherlands managing particular areas such as extradition, defense and foreign relations.

Curaçao is the largest of the six Caribbean islands that comprise the Caribbean portion of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
