Bahamas hosts Grenada in Group C to kick off League C
League C of the Road to W Gold Cup gets going on Wednesday with a Group C contest between Bahamas and Grenada at Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas, according to CONCACAF.
“It will be a momentous day for two sides looking to jump-start their respective women’s football programs,” said CONCACAF on Monday.
It noted that Grenada’s last taste of CONCACAF action came in 2022 CONCACAF W Championship Qualification, when they were drawn into Group C with 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16 finishers Jamaica.
“Grenada were unable to get a result in CWC Qualification, but certainly a positive moment came when they managed to score a goal against the Reggae Girlz, something that Jamaica’s Women’s World Cup group stage opponents France, Panama and Brazil all failed to do,” CONCACAF said.
“Roneisha Frank was the one who found the back of the net, so no doubt she’ll be keen to add more to her international tally,” it added.
CONCACAF said the Bahamas did not take part in 2022 CWC Qualification, but noted that a new generation of players will “look to take the program forward,” including GK Melina McClure, who plays in the United States with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Guiding this young group is Head Coach Ricqea Bain, who has been working with the Bahamas youth national team players for the last three years, CONCACAF said.
