Guyana Cultural Association Awards nomination closes on May 31

The Guyana Cultural Association New York Inc. (GCA) organizers of the Annual Folk Festival in Brooklyn, now in its 25th year of programming, will include the Claire Ann Gorging M.S. Youth Award in its categories in its call for nominations.

The 2025 nomination process, which will close on May 31, will present the Guyana Cultural Association Award, the Guyana Cultural Exemplary Award, and the Guyana Cultural Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nominees will also select persons for the GCA Business Partner/Cultural Enabler Award, the Godfrey Chin Prizes for Heritage Journalism (https://guyfolkfest.org/derry-etkins-prizes/), and the Derry Etkins Memorial Prizes for Excellence in Musical Composition, Performance, and Preservation. According to GCA President Ave Marie-Brewster-Haynes, since 2022, GCA has recognized Guyanese creativity and achievement by selecting persons for the Guyana Cultural Association Awards.

As such, a selection committee evaluates each nomination based on seven criteria: Originality, Scope, Impact/influence, Integration, Pioneering Spirit, Challenges, and Achievements.
