Australia beats West Indies Women in semifinal stage

The West Indies Women cricket team suffered a heavy defeat to the Australia Women cricket team in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semifinal, losing by eight wickets.

Batting first at Kennington Oval, West Indies Women struggled throughout and managed only 125 for 7 in 20 overs, continuing a poor run of form with the bat.

Australia women chased the target comfortably, reaching 127 for 2 in just 13 overs.

Beth Mooney anchored the chase with an unbeaten half-century, while Player of the Match Ashleigh Gardner added an unbeaten 35 to seal a dominant win for the six-time champions.

The Australia Women secured their place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final.

The victory also extended Australia’s dominance over the West Indies Women, winning 18 of their 20 T20I meetings.

In the match, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews gave her team a strong start with early boundaries, while opener Qiana Joseph struggled to score freely against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack.

The West Indies reached 35 without loss after the powerplay, but could not maintain momentum, losing wickets in quick succession.

Matthews was bowled for 30, followed by Qiana Joseph, who fell for 16. Stafanie Taylor and Jahzara Claxton were both dismissed for ducks, with Ashleigh Gardner striking twice, reducing the Windies to 59 for four in the 11th over.

Further damage came from Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham, as West Indies slumped to 83 for 6, with only Chinelle Henry (10) and Shemaine Campbelle (22) offering resistance.

The West Indies Women finished their innings with a late recovery, as Deandra Dottin and Jannillea Glasgow added 41 runs in the final four overs to push the total higher.

Dottin, who required medical attention before the match, scored an unbeaten 26 off 16 balls, while Glasgow made 15 off 13 before being dismissed on the final ball.

For Australia, Ashleigh Gardner led the bowling with figures of 2 for 13, supported by Georgia Wareham (2 for 17) and Sophie Molineux (2 for 30).

Australia made a fast start in their chase, with Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney putting on an early stand. Henry and Matthews took a wicket each, but Australia remained in control at 43 for 2 and the West Indies could not build more pressure.

Mooney powered Australia’s chase, reaching a 39-ball half-century and finishing unbeaten on 61 off 36 balls, as she and Ashleigh Gardner built a quick unbeaten partnership.

Ellyse Perry retired hurt, but Australia stayed dominant and completed the win comfortably. Gardner finished on 35 not out, sealing the victory.
