Jereem Richards lands Diamond League bronze

Jereem Richards won bronze in the men’s 400 metres at the Diamond League event in Stockholm, Sweden with a season-best time of 44.87 seconds.

Pleased with his strong start to the Diamond League season, Richards took to social media, thanking God for the result and said the performance was just the beginning as he looks to build towards even bigger achievements.

He posted: “Started my Diamond League season with a 3rd-place finish in Stockholm (44.87). Thankful to God for his grace, protection, and the opportunity to compete at this level once again. It’s not about how you start, but how you finish, and this is only the beginning. The ball is rolling. Time to keep building. All Glory to God.”

Competing in lane seven against a strong field that included Americans Jacory Patterson and Khaleb McRae, along with Britain’s Charles Dobson, Jereem Richards made a strong start and remained among the leaders entering the final 100 metres. He finished third in 44.87 seconds behind winner Zakithi Nene in 44.48 and Patterson in 44.69.

Khaleb McRae finished fourth in 44.94 seconds, meaning the top four all ran sub-45, while Charles Dobson placed fifth in a season-best 45.15. Sweden’s Carl Bengtström and Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga completed the field.

In January, Jereem Richards claimed the 300m title in 32.14 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, where he defeated world champion Noah Lyles.
