ICC women’s T20 World Cup launches in style in London

The 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was launched in spectacular style as London’s Waterloo Bridge was transformed into a cricket pitch for the first time in England.
All 12 captains gathered for the Captains’ Carnival overlooking the River Thames ahead of the tournament, which starts on June 12 in England and Wales.
The event marked the first joint appearance of all 12 captains and highlighted the global growth, visibility and appeal of women’s cricket, with iconic London landmarks such as Big Ben, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the London Eye as a backdrop.
ICC chair Jay Shah said the event was “a fitting way” to launch the global cricket showpiece.
“This is a landmark moment for women’s cricket and a fitting way to launch what we believe will be the most exciting and ambitious ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ever staged.”
“This will help elevate the buzz and excitement around the event, providing the final boost to the anticipation for the tournament before the first ball is bowled on June 12 in Birmingham,” Shah said.
“This event is another expression of the ICC’s commitment and belief linked to the agenda of building a more inclusive, global game.”
Ticket sales for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup have already reached around 200,000 before the tournament begins, setting a record and surpassing previous editions. The strong demand suggests even more milestones could be broken once the competition starts.
