Jamaica Consulate General opens book of condolence for former Minister of State Leslie Campbell
The Consulate General of Jamaica in New York opened a Book of Condolence for Leslie Campbell, who served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Campbell, a former member of Parliament, died on May 3 at age 67.
The Jamaica Consulate General said that the Book of Condolence was opened at its midtown Manhattan office on June 4 and 5.

The Consulate General of Jamaica in New York, said the opening of the Condolence Book is “in honor and lasting memory” of Campbell, “whose distinguished service to nation and Diaspora will be long remembered.”
The Consulate General said Campbell, who was born on July 1, 1958, “dedicated his professional and political life to national development and the advancement of the Jamaican people.”
It said Campbell was “a highly respected attorney-at-law and public servant,” who served in “several important capacities,” including Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation (2020) and State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (2020 to 2022).
“During his tenure with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, where he had responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Campbell played a leading role in strengthening Jamaica’s engagement with Jamaicans overseas, advancing the National Diaspora Policy, and supporting the work of the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council (GJDC) and the Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council (GJDYC),” the Jamaica Consulate General said.
“Mr. Campbell sought to deepen engagement with the Jamaican Diaspora through technology, and was instrumental in the virtual staging of the Diaspora Sustainability Symposium and the Jamaica 60 Diaspora Conference, held in 2021 and 2022, respectively,” it added.
The Jamaica Consulate General in New York said Campbell also represented the Ministry at the regional level in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and served as Sherpa for the UN High-level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.
