Chris Gayle named co-owner of Euro T20 franchise

Legendary West Indies player Chris Gayle has been named co-owner of a Glasgow franchise in the new European T20 Premier League (ETPL), marking his entry into cricket franchise ownership.

According to reports, Gayle has partnered with Mugafi Group, and the team will compete under the name Glasgow Mugafians.

Gayle brings significant experience and global recognition to the venture, having enjoyed a long and successful career in international cricket as well as in T20 franchise leagues around the world.

“Stepping into the role of co-owner of Glasgow Mugafians marks an exciting new chapter for me,” Gayle said.

“Europe represents cricket’s final frontier, and the ETPL has the potential to unravel promising local talent and nurture future heroes who will strengthen the sport in that region,” Gayle added. “I can’t wait to get started on this new journey.”

The European T20 Premier League (ETPL) is being organised in partnership with the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands and will feature teams based out of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

According to reports, each franchise has been sold for £11 million over a 10-year period. The inaugural tournament is scheduled to run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 20, marking the start of a new cricket competition in Europe.
