‘This is the Time for Me’: Minna LaFortune
With an anthem of resilience, empowerment, and hope, Brooklyn-based, Jamaican-born reggae artist Minna LaFortune drops her latest single, “This is the Time for Me.”
Inspired by Kamala Harris’s historic journey and dedicated to all who may feel the disappointment of recent setbacks, LaFortune told Caribbean Life over the weekend that “this powerful song encourages women of color and individuals of immigrant heritage to stay on the path of self-empowerment and upward mobility.
“Even though Harris did not prevail in the recent election, ‘This is the Time for Me’ reminds listeners that this moment is not an end but a stepping stone in their journey,” she said. “If anything, this is the time to double down on self-care.
“The song is a reminder that setbacks can be powerful catalysts for growth, reflection, and renewed determination,” LaFortune added. “It calls on women to not only keep pursuing their dreams but also to nurture themselves along the way, reinforcing that resilience is built through self-care and perseverance.”
LaFortune said she crafted “This is the Time for Me” as a rallying cry for everyone who dares to dream big and face challenges head-on.
Her lyrics remind us that the road to success is rarely easy, but with determination and self-belief, every obstacle can be overcome.
The song invites listeners to keep pushing forward, even in the face of setbacks. It echoes the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who said, “Time is neutral; it can be used either constructively or destructively.”

Key lyrics include: “Here I come, I’m a smart woman/I am here, open the door and let me in/I will not be discouraged/I will not give in/This is the time for me.”
LaFortune said the song’s powerful chorus, “This is the time for me/ oh, you will see/ this is the time for me,” serves as “a rallying cry for those who refuse to abandon their dreams, even when the path is challenging.
“It speaks to the strength, resilience, and unstoppable drive that women possess to keep moving forward despite the obstacles they may face,” she said. “This song is for everyone who believed in Kamala Harris and the dream she represents, especially women of color and those from immigrant families.
“While the election outcome may not have been what we hoped, that doesn’t mean we should stop pushing forward,” she added. “This is a song to remind everyone to stay strong, keep rising, and remember that the human spirit is resilient and unstoppable.”
“This is the Time for Me” combines uplifting reggae rhythms with empowering lyrics, offering a sense of optimism, unity, and self-empowerment.
“The song’s catchy melody and message of hope make it an anthem for those who are ready to take control of their destinies, face challenges head-on, and prioritize their wellbeing,” LaFortune said.
The single is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
LaFortune said an accompanying music video, featuring scenes of women from diverse backgrounds breaking barriers and reaching new heights, will be released soon.
