Nigy Boy hailed as ‘Ambassador for Jamaica’ by Montego Bay Mayor Richard Vernon

Visually impaired, Jamaican-born, New York-based artist Nigy Boy, a dynamic dancehall singer who rose from humble beginnings in Montego Bay, Jamaica, to become a global superstar with hit singles “Continent,” “Karma,” and “Goodness of God,” has been hailed as “an Ambassador for Jamaica” by Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon.

“Nigy Boy is a role model and an Ambassador for Jamaica and St James,” Vernon said in a Caribbean Life interview on Friday.

“Nigy Boy is the epitome of someone who does not allow his circumstances to define him.

“This is someone who works hard on his craft as an entertainer and has been able to balance a busy performance/recording schedule with his academic pursuits,” the mayor added.

Vernon made these comments days before he was scheduled to present the “Continent Boss” with the Mayor’s Special Sam Sharpe Award at the St. James Municipal Corporation National Heroes Day Civic Ceremony on Oct. 21 at the Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Sam Sharpe is one of seven National Heroes of Jamaica.

“This award (to Nigy Boy) represents a king being honored in his own country,” Vernon said.

“I feel a sense of great joy to know that I am being honored by the mayor of the city I was born in,” an elated Nigy Boy told Caribbean Life.

“To this day, it’s mind-boggling how much I have been able to accomplish since establishing a foothold in the music industry, especially since I’ve only recently risen to popularity,” he added.
