Brooklyn DA, NYPD to host 2024 New York city gun buyback program

The Brooklyn District Attorney Office in partnership with NYPD Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban, and Beulah Church of the Nazarene in Brooklyn, will on July 20 host a Cash for Guns at the church’s location, 1250 Saint John’s Place, Brooklyn (entrance by Troy Avenue), from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

According to DA Eric Gonzalez, persons will receive a $500.00 bank card for operable handguns and assault rifles, no questions asked. Additionally, a $200.00 bank card will be handed over for ghost or 3D printed guns, and a bank card valued at $25.00 will be given for air guns, imitation pistol, and inoperable firearms. Payment is subject to inspection by Department Specialists.

This initiative comes in the wake of a spate of gun violence that is permeating communities across America, taking young lives and disrupting neighborhoods.

According to DA Gonzalez, persons will not be required to produce identification (ID) to relinquish firearms. However, guns must be placed in a plastic, paper bag, or box to be handed over.

If a gun is being transported by car, it must be placed in the trunk of the car. There is no limit on how many guns can be relinquished, but the DA’s office said, only a maximum payment of $1,500.00 for three guns is allowed, and only a two ghost gun limit per participant, is allowed. Someone can also surrender a gun on behalf of another.

Active or retired law enforcement officers and licensed gun dealers are not eligible to participate in the program.
