Personal injury law firm finds the secret to longevity: Customer service
As a career path, young lawyers choose personal injury for many reasons, but Elliot Ifraimoff’s story might be the most compelling.
His family immigrated from Azerbaijan in 1990 when Elliot was 16. Shortly thereafter he began his college studies while also helping his parents start a small food vending business. In September of 1998, Elliot’s father suffered a debilitating injury when a gas tank in his food truck exploded. Elliot, then a freshman at Brooklyn Law School, helped his parents translate the linguistic and legal labyrinth to eventually get a settlement. “It was what inspired me to go into the personal injury field,” he said.
Elliot remembered not only the pain but the anxiety his father experienced, who worried how he’d support his family if he couldn’t work.
“At my firm we talk about how to best help clients,” said Elliot. “To observe the progression of a person being hurt and injured and anxious and stressed out to where one day they are feeling much better, they’re smiling when we tell them about a result that we’re able to obtain — that’s very satisfying. When clients are able to put the whole matter behind them and restore their lives, it reminds me of what my own family went through.”
At the same time his father was enduring his lawsuit, Elliot heard something his law professor said that made him sit up straight in his seat. “The professor started the class by telling us the number one complaint about attorneys from clients is ‘they do not return phone calls.’”
To Elliot, that sounded ridiculous. His family, after all, had been in the hospitality business, and he spent his formative years watching the level of customer service provided to customers in restaurants. “I thought to myself, if I am ever fortunate enough to run a law firm, my clients are going to have the opposite complaints,” he said with a smile. “They’re going to say, ‘these attorneys keep calling us, when are they going to leave us alone?)’”
Nearly 22 years later, clients are raving about the customer service provided by Elliot Ifraimoff & Associates, just look at their reviews on Google. While some personal injury firms are assigning too many cases to their overworked teams of attorneys and paralegals, Elliot’s firm assigns a minimal number of clients per team. This allows the firm’s attorneys and paralegals to dedicate sufficient amount of time to the handling of their cases and to providing outstanding customer service. “Another reason this approach works better is that a client can always speak to the same person at the firm that knows exactly what’s happening with every aspect of a case, not just one particular claim that they’re handling,” said Elliot.
“Over the past two decades we have worked to build a network of professionals in the community to assist our clients whose cases require support beyond the need for legal counsel. Such professionals include medical doctors, attorneys who practice in other areas of law, auto repair shops and others. We work expeditiously to provide the additional help our clients need while making sure each provider is located near the client’s home or work for added convenience.”
Having a strong negotiation department has helped as well, especially since a backlog in the legal system created by COVID has extended the time it takes for cases to resolve to nearly five years. “We’re able to resolve around 75% of cases out of court,” says Elliot. “That makes for a huge number of happy clients.” Clients his firm maintains a strong connection with years after the formal representation ends. “We love sending Birthday Wishes to all our past and present clients”.
After two decades of positive outcomes for clients, Elliot feels now is the time to let people know about the firm. “We were never big on advertising, but have gathered such much experience over the years that I really would like people to benefit from the processes that we’ve created, and from the care that we’re willing to give. There’s a need for law firms who can achieve great results and provide outstanding level of service. I feel that it’s our duty to be such a law firm and help as many clients as possible.”
