Monthly Arts Stroll in Crown Heights happening next week
This Friday, Sept. 8, Calabar Gallery will host its Crown Heights Arts Stroll, featuring art galleries and businesses in the neighborhood, on Franklin, Washington and Nostrand avenues, following Labor Day weekend.
The event has been going on since the first Friday of April this year. In addition to Calabar Gallery, four others will be taking part in the event: Five Myles Gallery, “B” Dry Goods, My Gallery NYC, and The Shirley Project Space.
At Five Myles, the focus is on advancing public interest in innovative experimental work, identifying and exhibiting work of under-represented artists, and engaging the local community through participation in the arts.
B Dry Goods exhibits original, profound and important works of art and cultural artifacts, and seeks out artists who embrace a rich, diverse, multi-cultural or world perspective to their work.
The goal with My Gallery NYC is to encourage artists to invest in themselves, while also helping them lose the fear of sharing their work with others.
The Shirley Project Space spotlights mid-career artists with an emphasis on innovative abstraction and site-specific installations.
In addition, artists who have work featured during the event include Donchellee Fulwood from New Jersey, Mulenga J. Mulenga from Lusaka, Zambia, Sika Foyer from the West African country Togo, and multidisciplinary artist Rosy Petri from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Additionally, the Haiti Cultural Exchange, based in the neighborhood, is a partner in the event.
There will be performances by musicians from its Mizit Ayiti program at Calabar Gallery.
The event is free, but all attendees should register here.
