Mango Festival returns to Nevis
The Caribbean island of Nevis has announced the return of the famous Nevis Mango Festival, a popular event drawing attention from both international and local audiences.
Taking place from Jun. 30 to Jul. 2, 2023, the Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA) said on Thursday that the Nevis Mango Festival gives visitors “the opportunity to learn about and savor the flavors of 44 varieties of mangos that are grown on the island.
“Visitors can expect fun, engaging and educational experiences throughout the festival, including a mango cook-off, a mango eating competition and a mango hunt,” NTA said.
It said there are also tours of local farms, tastings of different varieties of mangos, and opportunities to purchase fresh mangos and mango products.
Organizers are also planning the return of the Bartender’s Competition, where mixologists endeavor to craft an innovative cocktail that highlights the Nevis Mango Festival’s character.
NTA said he festival’s celebrity host will be Juliet Angelique Bodley – also known as Julie Mango – a singer, motivational speaker and actor.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Nevis Mango Festival this year,” she said. “Not only are Nevisian mangos some of the best in the world, they’re also incredibly good for us. And I can’t wait to try all the delicious dishes set to be made over the course of the weekend.”
In addition, celebrity chef Tayo Ola – known as Tayo’s Creation on Instagram – will also feature throughout the festivities – hosting the Chef Demo and Masterclass on the kitchen at the Supper Club and a judge for the Chef Competition, NTA said.
“I firmly believe that food is the universal language that brings people together and creates unforgettable memories,” Tayo said.
NTA CEO, Devon Liburd, said: “The Nevis Mango Festival is a highlight on our annual events calendar, and we look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world to our shores.
“We are proud of our unique culinary history, and we look forward to sharing it with people each and every year,” he added. “I would like to encourage people to join us as we celebrate the delicious, versatile tropical fruit on our bountiful island.
NTA said a number of Nevis hotels have special offers for visitors to the island this summer, including during the Nevis Mango Festival.
These include: Four Seasons Nevis, Montpelier Plantation and Beach, Golden Rock Inn, Hermitage Inn, Mount Nevis Hotel and Oualie Beach Resort.
