US Vice President Kamala Harris to talk Climate Change with Caribbean leaders
As one way of its commitment in advancing efforts to combat climate change for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), as well as making common bonds more stable and secure with the Caribbean region, the Biden-Harris administration has announced a CARICOM leadership meeting with the United States. Vice President, Kamala Harris, will represent the United States in Nassau, Bahamas on June 8, 2023, to continue holding these climate change discussions while enabling the advancement for the Caribbean nations with the United States.
The gathering will convene with leaders from CARICOM and other regional stakeholders. The CARICOM Chairman, Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Edward “Brave” Davis will co-host the summit, along with Vice President, Kamala Harris. The areas opened for discussion are all global concerns on the significance and importance of climate change, energy management, food security and the process of rebuilding in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Strategies will also be discussed to reduce the region’s reliance on fossils fuels and all other related issues concerning the Caribbean community.
The Vice President will be traveling to the Bahamas during the month of June, which is celebrated as Caribbean American Heritage month and will celebrate the long years of people-to-people ties between and Caribbean and the United States.
The visit also solidifies a commitment to address climate change and advance the shared democratic principles between the United States and the Caribbean.
