Brooklyn Dems urge community to vote

With the mid-term elections just a few days away, Nov. 8, the Brooklyn Democratic Party is urging the community to exercise their franchise to vote.
The party is also urging voters to cast their ballots early, as early voting began last Saturday and ends on Sunday, Nov. 6.
“Voting early is convenient, fast and flexible,” said Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair, Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn.
“Every vote makes a difference—make your voice heard and keep Brooklyn and New York Blue,” added the daughter of Haitian immigrants, who represents the 42nd Assembly District in Brooklyn.
Bichotte Hermelyn said state races – including governor, lt. governor, attorney general, state comptroller, state senators and assembly members – are on the ballots, as well as federal races, such as US senator and US congressional representatives.
In addition, the judiciary is on the ballot – NYS Supreme Court and Civil Court.
Voters can also cast ballots for four proposals, which would amend the state Constitution, if passed.
The ballot proposals are: Ballot Proposal 1: Clean Water, Clean Air, And Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022. This proposal would allow for state bonds to be sold to fund environmental projects.
Ballot Proposal 2: Add a Statement of Values to Guide Government. This proposal would add introductory text, known as a preamble, to the New York City Charter. This preamble would serve as a guiding principle for city government to promote justice and equity for all New Yorkers.
Ballot Proposal 3: Establish a Racial Equity Office, Plan, and Commission. This proposal would create an Office of Racial Equity, require a citywide Racial Equity Plan every two years, and create a Commission on Racial Equity.
Ballot Proposal 4: Measure the True Cost of Living. This proposal would require the city to measure the actual cost of living for city residents to meet essential needs.
