20-story Montague Street tower hits the midway mark in Brooklyn Heights

A residential tower is currently soaring toward its eventual 20 stories near a busy intersection in Brooklyn Heights

Located at 200 Montague St. near the corner of Court Street in the Borough Hall Skyscraper Historic District, the building has reached 10 stories.

It takes the place of a modern-style four-story bank building, and the site has been owned by the developer Midtown Equities since 2007. Known for its preservation work, Beyer Blinder Belle is the architect behind the project.

After going in front of the Landmarks Preservation Commission twice in 2019, the project was approved. The former bank was demolished in 2020.

Building permits show the tower will have 121 apartments. A tenant fitness room, children’s playroom, lounge, storage, laundry room and pet wash room will be found in the cellar. Retail will be on the ground floor, with the residential units on the floors above. A terrace available to residents will be located on the roof.

Renderings show a black granite facade — distinct from the buildings on either side — along with bronze-toned painted aluminum details around the windows and ground floor entrances.

It stands across the street from The Pierrepont, another 20-story residential tower designed by Marvel Architects that was completed in 2020. One block away, a hotel conversion at 186 Remsen St. was approved in 2019.
